Ms. Michelle Moultrie Denison - Band Director
Ms. Denison has a diverse range of experience in the field of music education. She has been the band director and music appreciation teacher at Ben Hill Middle since 2002. Many of those years were also spent assisting with the Fitzgerald High School Band as a woodwind and colorguard instructor. She taught band and general music for grades K-12 at Zion Chapel School in Coffee County, Alabama from 1991-1993. She was also the band director and general music instructor for Irwin County Middle/High School from 1993-2000. Although her concentration is instrumental music, she has some experience with elementary and choral music instruction.
A 1987 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, Ms. Denison played oboe and clarinet in both concert and marching band, and served as drum major during her senior year. At Troy University, she performed with the Sound of the South Marching Band on clarinet and in colorguard. She also performed on oboe in the Symphonic Band and Concert bands, as well as in numerous orchestras for the Opera Workshop, Collegiate Singers and various churches in Alabama and Georgia. She is a member of Tau Beta Sigma, national band service sorority, and Sigma Alpha Iota, professional music fraternity for women.
She is currently performing on oboe in the Azalea Winds Classic Community Band based in Valdosta, Georgia.
Ms. Denison is also the sponsor for the BHMS Needlecrafts Club.
Orders from the fall fundraiser are scheduled to be delivered Dec. 11, the day after our concert. I will be sending receipts home with students with the amount of money that was turned in and the amount that may still be owed, along with a copy of the order form.
SCALE AND SIGHTREADING HELP FOR STUDENTS WHO APPLIED TO HONOR BANDS IS AVAILABLE IN THE MORNINGS BEFORE SCHOOL OR AFTER SCHOOL UNTIL 5:00 ON TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS, OCT. 30 AND NOVEMBER 1,6,8.
Southeastern United States Honor Band Clinic at Troy University- Dec. 6-8. 7th and 8th graders.
Audition scales Bb, Eb, and Ab, and sightreading. You are responsible for meals and registration fee (usually around 70.00, which doesn't have to be paid if and until you are accepted). Transportation and motel rooms provided.
John Philip Sousa National Project Junior Honor Band in Fitzgerald at the Grand Theatre- November 15-17. 8th and 9th graders.
Audition is your full chromatic scale and sightreading.You are responsible for registration fee of 60.00. Lunch on Friday is included in the fee, and usually a t-shirt. Your parents will need to provide your transportation to and from the Grand Theatre.
We will be taking orders for Tervis Tumblers and Yankee Candles at the end of October for 1 week. Students will be allowed to use a portion of the profits for uniform shirts or honor band fees. Start thinking about Christmas gifts for friends and family!
We will sell cookie dough and popcorn in February.
BHMS Bands Christmas concert MONDAY, DECEMBER 10 at 7:00 at the Grand Theatre. All 6th,7th,and 8th graders will perform.
Students will report for attendance and warm-ups at 6:30.
Wear uniform shirt and jeans. We will order shirts for new people before then.
Performing is standard #2 in the Georgia Performance Standards and this will be the students' End of Quarter Test grade.
