Meet Coach Peterson
-
I was born and raised in Ben Hill County. I live in my grandparents' house that sits on their farm which has been in our family since 1929. I graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1983. I married George Peterson in August 12, 1983. I was a stay at home mom and housewife for 13 years before I started working in education. George and I have 4 children: Kris, Drew, Big Chris and Ellie. I have 3 grandhchildren(Bella "BE", Bray "Bubba" and Brielle "Elle"). I also have a daughter-in-law, Becky, who is married to Big Chris. All 4 of my chidren are graduates of Fitzgerald High School.
I enjoy spending time with my children, granddaughter and daughter-in-law. I love being outside. Some of my favorite outdoor activities are mud bogging, riding four-wheelers and motorcycles, going deer hunting and fishing. I enjoy going to amusement parks to ride the fastest and craziest rides they have. Every year my children and I go on vacation to the place we call, "Our Peace of Heaven On Earth" which is Mexico Beach, Florida.
I would much rather play sports than watch sports on tv. I was a coach through the DLS for 27 years(softball, baseball, basketball). I was a 4-H Shooting Sports Coach for BB, Air Rifle and Air Pistol for 10 years. I was a Certified Aerobics Instructor for 10 years.
I became a substiutute teacher in 1996-1999 in grades PreK - 8th grade. In 1999, I became the PE Parapro at Ben Hill Primary. While at the BHP, I also worked tutoring in Math and Language Interventions. I worked at BHP from 1999-2019. In 2019, I moved to Ben Hill Elementary as the PE/Health teacher for 3rd-5th grade.
From 2003-2009, I attended ABAC where I receieved my Associates Degree in Physical Education. I attended Troy University from 2009-2013. where I received my Bachelors' in Sports and Fitness Management with a Minor in Recreation.

The Value of PE . . . .
-
"Its time to value PE as a core subject in school, as it plays a critical roll in teaching students how to achieve optimal health and physical fitness, while increasing their ability to succeed academically."
Elissa Bassler, CEO of the Illinois Public Health Institute
