Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Jonathan Kelly
Originally from Climax, Georgia, I was an honor graduate at Bainbridge High School in 2004. I then attended Troy State University, and graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelors of Science in Music Education in 2009. While at Troy State, I studied conducting with Dr. Mark Walker, and studied clarinet with Ray Smith and Dr. Tim Phillips. I was a performing member of the Symphony Band, and 1 o'clock Concert Band, playing clarinet and bass clarinet. I was also a performing member of the Sound of the South Marching Band, playing sousaphone. During my time in Troy, I had the privilege of performing with the South East Alabama Community Band, conducted by Dr. Johnny Long, for three seasons.
In 2013, I earned a Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning from Nova Southeastern University, with an emphasis in music technology.
In addition to directing the Fitzgerald Marching 'Canes, I conduct the Concert Band, the Category 5 Percussion Ensemble, the Jazz Band, produce the spring musical and One Act Play, and sponsor the Interact Club and Drama Club/Thespian Troupe 2732.
I currently serve on the board of directors and perform with the Azalea Winds, a classic community band, based in Valdosta.
Locally, I serve on the board of directors for the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Arts Council, and the Miss Fitzgerald Pageant.
Currently, I am a member of the Georgia Bandmasters Association, the National Association For Music Educators (NAFME), Kappa Delta Pi Honorary Education Society, and the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE).
In 2011 I was inducted into the Montclair Who’s Who in Education.
