    Addressing the Board:

Meetings of the Board of Education are held to conduct the affairs and business of the school system. The public is invited and encouraged to attend all meetings of the Board of Education, and, except for the executive portion of the meeting, the meetings shall be open to the public.

Members of the public may address the Board of Education at appropriate times and in accordance with procedures established by the Board of Education and Georgia law. All presentations are to be brief and intended for the Board of Education to hear comments or concerns without taking action. The public may remark on issues regarding the School District and the Board of Education’s conduct of the schools, including criticisms of school operations and programs. However, issues or incidents involving individual employees and students and matters that are in litigation or an administrative process will not be addressed in public participation. Other channels provide for the Board of Education to consider complaints related to individuals. In addition, administrative procedure for problem resolution must be exhausted before the matter is brought before the Board of Education.

The Superintendent shall make available procedures for the public to request to be placed on the meeting agenda for presentation to the Board of Education. These procedures shall also be available at the office of the Superintendent and shall be given, upon request, to anyone requesting a copy. The approval or denial of such request shall be in the discretion of the Superintendent and Board of Education. In other cases, the public will be provided the opportunity to make comment to the Board of Education during the public comment period provided for in regular monthly meetings of the Board of Education.

The Board Chair shall be responsible for calling on all speakers for maintaining order and for adhering to the time limits set. Each speaker will state his or her name, address, and the subject about which he or she wishes to speak. In accordance with law, the Board Chair may limit the number of persons speaking for or against an issue. All speakers are asked to keep their remarks civil. The use of obscene or profane language, physical violence, or the threat thereof, or other loud and boisterous behavior will not be allowed.
