Positive Behavioral Supports (PBIS)

  • Ben Hill County School District's 3 R's: Respectful, Responsible and Ready to Learn!!

responsible, ready and respectful PBIS is an evidence-based, data-driven framework proven to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase a school’s sense of safety and support improved academic outcomes. More than 16,000 U.S. schools are implementing PBIS and saving countless instructional hours otherwise lost to discipline. The premise of PBIS is that continual teaching, combined with acknowledgement or feedback of positive student behavior will reduce unnecessary discipline and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety and learning. PBIS schools apply a multi-tiered approach to prevention, using disciplinary data and principles of behavior analysis to develop school-wide, targeted and individualized interventions and supports to improve school climate for all students. The Ben Hill County School District implements PBIS system-wide. The system has experienced a significant reduction in discipline referrals since implementation. The motto of PBIS in our district incorporates the 3R's: Be Responsible, Respectful and Ready to Learn. We believe these expectations apply not only to our students but to our staff as well. It is our hope that these expectations will cross over into the community, wherever we go and whatever we do.
