Chorus

  • The Ben Hill Middle School Choral Department is under the direction of Debbie Hamlin. It is made up of three grade level ensembles and includes students from a variety of backgrounds. Each Chorus meets daily during Connections time and is a year-long class.

Students learn Bel Canto choral technique consisting of pure vowels and crisp consonants to accompany a well-supported and controlled tone. The basic style is adapted to be appropriate for a variety of musical styles in several languages. Singers are taught to view each song as the telling of a story that includes the actual words and the history of the music and composer.

The BHMS Chorus normally performs two major concerts each year at the FHSCCA auditorium; the Winter concert with the FHS Choral Department and a Spring concert. Other performances normally include Pep Rallies, Sixth Grade Visitation, and Honors Day.
